Six Mavericks earn all-conference honors, three on first team

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington claimed six all-conference picks on the 2004 All-Southland Conference men's tennis teams, three on each squad. Senior David Corrie earned the top accolade as the SLC player of the year.

Corrie, tabbed the SLC palyer of the year, headlines for the Mavericks after earning first team honors at No. 1 singles. The senior, also named the SLC freshman of the year in 2001, owns a 31-8 singles record on the year and has been nationally ranked as high as No. 23 this season.

Sandy Farquharson, a first team choice for the second straight year, and Niels Buksik join Corrie on the first team after an undefeated 5-0 mark in SLC plaly at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

Ian Vazqez-Rowe and Petri van Rensburg rounded out UTA's singles selections on the second team while the senior tandem of Corrie and Nathan McGregor, a two-time all-conference pick, also took a seat on the second doubles team.

The Mavericks will head to San Antonio as the second seed in this weekends SLC tournament. UTA will have a bye in the first round before facing off with the winner of the Southeastern Louisiana-Lamar match on Saturday at 2 p.m.
