ARLINGTON, Texas... David Corrie, a member of the men's tennis team at The University of Texas at Arlington, was named to the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI men's at-large team today. The team consists of a total of 10 student-athletes representing tennis, gymnastics, swimming, golf and wrestling programs, and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Corrie, who has already been named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year and to the Academic All-SLC team, will now have his name listed on the ballot for the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America team. One of the top players in the SLC, Corrie has also been a star in the classroom, having put together a 3.91 grade point average as an economics major at UTA.

On the court, Corrie was ranked as high as 108th nationally in singles action in 2002-03. A second team All-SLC performer at the No. 2 singles position, Corrie helped lead the Mavericks to the SLC regular season and post season championships this past season. The London, England native was the hero of the championship match of the SLC Tournament, as his 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Texas-San Antonio's Dennis Andrade completed the Mavericks' come-from-behind victory and sent UTA to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years, where UTA nearly pulled off an upset of third-ranked Baylor. Corrie was 14-15 overall in singles play, with seven of those losses coming at the hands of players ranked ahead of him. He and doubles teammate Niels Buksik teamed to put together an 18-8 overall record. Corrie was 4-1 in Southland Conference singles matches, and held an identical 4-1 record alongside Buksik in SLC doubles matches.

Joining Corrie on the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI men's at-large team are tennis players Richard Barker and William Barker of Rice, Alex Hartman of Mississippi, Jiri Jezek of Oklahoma State and Chris Mitchell of Oklahoma; gymnast Brett Covey of Oklahoma; swimmer Brice Dumais of SMU; golfer Doug Manor of Oklahoma; and wrestler Shane Roller of Oklahoma State.
