ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington's Ian Vazquez was the lone Maverick named to the 2005 Hibernia Bank/Southland Conference Men's Tennis All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday, May 31.
The all-academic team honors student-athletes who were selected all-conference and/or named as a national all-academic recipient this year while also earning at least a 3.00 grade point average. Remaining spots on the all-academic teams are then voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators. Student-athletes must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches.
Vazquez, an all-SLC second-teamer, closed out the season with a 15-6 overall mark, 13-6 at the No. 5 position and 2-0 at No. 4 singles. He was 4-2 in league action in helping the Mavericks to a second place conference finish. The junior paired with Niels Buksik for a 7-5 mark at No. 3 doubles.
A Santiago de Compostella, Spain native, Vazquez owns a 3.63 GPA in biology.
