ARLINGTON, Texas... David Corrie, a member of the men's tennis team at The University of Texas at Arlington, was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large University Division first team today. The team consists of a total of 15 student-athletes representing tennis, ice hockey, volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, golf and wrestling programs, and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Corrie becomes the first tennis player in UTA history and seventh student-athlete overall to earn All-America honors. He also becomes just the second Maverick named to the first team after Lisa Verheul earned the honor in 1999.

Corrie has garnered the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year honor in its two years of existence and was named the SLC Player of the Year in 2004. One of the top players in the SLC, Corrie has also been a star in the classroom, having put together a 3.93 grade point average as an economics major at UTA.

On the court, Corrie was ranked as high as 23rd nationally in singles action in 2003-04. A first team All-SLC performer at the No. 1 singles position, Corrie helped lead the Mavericks to a 14-10 overall mark and a second place finish in the SLC. Corrie was 32-8 overall in singles play. He and doubles teammate Nathan McGregor teamed to put together an 11-5 overall record. Corrie was 4-1 in Southland Conference singles matches, and held an identical 4-1 record alongside McGregor in SLC doubles matches.

Joining Corrie on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large Division first team are tennis players Richard Barker and William Barker of Rice, Clint Keithley of Penn State and C.J. Weber of Eastern Illinois; gymnasts Jamey Houle of Ohio State and Bob Rogers of Illinois; golfers Scott Carlyle of California and Camilo Villegas of Florida; swimmers Caesar Garcia of Auburn, Mitch Richeson of Ohio State and Scott Schultz of Florida; wrestler Tyler Nixt of Iowa and ice hockey player Frank Doyle of Maine.
