MAV NETTERS CLOSE OUT BRENTWOOD INVITATIONAL

BEAUMONT, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad closed out the Brentwood Intercollegiate Invitational Saturday afternoon with Kyle Mims claiming the consolation draw of the singles open flight. Joining host Lamar University in the two-day event was UTA, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas-Pan American and Ouachita Baptist.
Mims advanced in the consolation bracket after dropping LU's Tyler Cobb in straight sets. Ouachita Baptist's Chris Jones took the first set 6-4 in the finals, but Mims rebounded taking the second set 6-4 and winning the tiebreaker, 10-4.
In other singles action, Texas-Pan American's Gary Bianco led 6-0 in the first set before UTA's Felipe Acosta retired. Josey Trimmier dropped the final match of the day, falling to Southeastern Louisiana's Josh Smith.
Jeremy Helsley paired with Mims in the doubles main draw, dropping LU's Bal/Cobb 8-3 before falling to Steil/Esmail of UTPA, 8-3. The tandem dropped the consolation match, 8-4, to Ouachita Baptist's Jones/Pintaluba.
The Mavericks will continue fall tournament action Sept 25-26 at the Baylor Invitational.
