ARLINGTON, Texas - The fall's competitive tournament slate comes to a close as the Mavericks head to the ITA Texas Regional tournament hosted by Texas A&M in College Station. The four-day tournament begins on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
With draws released on Thursday, Guanarteme Nuez earned a seeded rank and receive a bye through the first round and will take on the winner of UTRGV vs. Incarnate Word in the second round. For the other Mavericks, a favorable draw sees only one UTA player take on a seeded opponent in the opening match.
"The guys are ready for the regionals and we are hoping that with this draw we can work our way through the tournament," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "Nuez has been playing well and is deserving of his ranked seed, while the other guys are hoping to end the fall on a high note against some great competition."
Mauricio Del Rio already saw his first-round opponent withdraw from the tournament, so he will open up against TCU's Reese Stalder in the second round. Del Rio advanced into the same round in last year's edition of the regional.
Eduard Simo was the luckiest Maverick seeding wise, Simo will avoid a seeded opponent through the first two rounds. He opens with a matchup against Lamar's Sebastian Santibanez.
