Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis team completed day one of the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas with newcomers Mindaugas Celedinas and Jason Lateko advancing to the quarterfinals in singles' action at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

Celedinas began the day with a first round bye and later recorded a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1 and 6-1 victory over Denver's Varun Gunaseelan. Celedinas will match-up against Duncan MacDonald-Korth of Oregon State in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

Lateko finished day one of the Texas Invitational with two victories under his belt. Lateko collected his first win over Marquette's JT Christian with a final score of 1-6, 6-3 and 6-2 and recorded a three-set victory over Tobias Schneider of Lamar by a final score of 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Lateko will go head-to-head against UTSA's Daniel Moreiras at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Brieuc Hamon notched two wins in day one of the singles' draw. Hamon earned a first round bye where he advanced to the round of 32 collecting a 7-6, 6-1 win over Rook Schellenbert of Texas. Hamon will face-off against Miguel R. Varlea of Texas tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

Dmitry Minkin suffered a 6-1, 7-5 setback over Texas's No. 5 player Josh Zavala while David Subirats dropped a 7-6, 2-6, and 7-6 decision against Ayrton Wibowo of Oregon.

Junior Gonzalo Bienzobas handed UTPA's Shashank Vij a 6-3, 7-5 loss but suffered a 6-3, 3-6, and 6-2 setback to Drake Kakar of Marquette.

In doubles' action, tandem Brieuc Hamon and Adam Srkala notched an 8-4 win over Lamar's Maciej Bogusz and Tobias Schneider. Hamon and Srkala will face-off against Alex Cornelissen and Marco Verdasco of Oregon at 4:30 tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

 

 

Duo Gonzalo Bienzobas and David Subirats dropped an 8-6 decision to TAMUCC's Alex Pavlov and Jose Zunino while Celedinas and Minkin suffered a 9-8 setback over Brett Bernstein and Marcus Dornauf of UTPA.

The Mavs will be back in swing tomorrow morning with singles' and doubles action.
