ARLINGTON, Texas -
Looking to replicate the success of the 2016 Sun Belt Championship, UT Arlington men's tennis announced its 2018 schedule on Monday.
The men open at the UTA Tennis Center with a seven-match homestand that begins on Jan. 21 against Harvard at 2 p.m. The Mavericks will play 10 matches at home this spring.
"We have a good mix of home and away matches to give us a good test this year," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We will get to be at home for the early part of the schedule, but face a difficult road during the middle of our season as we go to both Florida and California. It will be a fun season with a group of guys that continue to play at a top level."
The Mavs will continue action in February with doubleheader against Cameron (11 a.m.) and Seminole State (3 p.m.) on Feb. 3, the second consecutive year the teams have come to play in Arlington. Texas A&M Corpus Christi begins the first of two matches with the Islanders on Feb. 7. UTA will make a return trip to Corpus Christi on March 19.
Another doubleheader at UTA will take place oN Feb. 10 against Prairie View A&M and Midwestern State. The homestand comes to a close on Feb. 15 when Incarnate Word comes to the UTA Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
After playing seven at home, UTA will head for a big road trip with nine consecutive away from home in a trip that visits all four time zones.
The trek begins in Las Cruces, N.M. on Feb. 17-18 with matches against New Mexico State and Western New Mexico respectively. Then a trip to the east coast sees UTA at Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 23) and Florida Atlantic (Feb. 25) before they head to the west coast for a three-day tournament at Sacramento State. The Mavs finally return to Texas to close the road trip at Lamar (March 17) and their match at Corpus Christi.
A road date at regional power TCU on March 25 is sandwiched around a home date against Columbia (March 24) and the lone Sun Belt foe Troy at home on April 8. UTA heads back onto the road for two matches at SMU and at UTSA before Senior Day concludes the schedule on April 14 against Abilene Christian.
