ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington tennis coach Diego Benitez announced the 2014 men's tennis spring schedule.
"The men's schedule will provide us the opportunity to play touch competition at home," Benitez said. "We will have the chance to play many ranked teams and improve our national ranking."
The Mavericks will open the 2014 slate in Houston, Texas as they face New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. followed by a match with Rice on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. UTA will host its first match of the season on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. as they take on UL Lafayette.
UT Arlington will face stiff competition several times throughout 2014. The Mavs host TCU on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. before traveling to Austin for a match with Texas on Sunday, Feb. 23 at noon.
Coach Benitez' 11-man squad will be playing for a slot in the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championship tournament to take place beginning Thursday, April 17 in New Orleans, La. The 2013-14 men's tennis team will consist of six returners and five newcomers, four of which are true freshmen.
"We have a lot of talent in our freshmen," Benitez said. "I believe that we have a solid lineup all across the board. Right now, it is tough to predict who will be playing on top but that is a good problem to have as a coach. I'm excited to see them all compete in just a few weeks."
