Since joining the UT Arlington track and field staff prior to the 2011 season, Wade Hayes has paid huge dividends in aiding the team's field events, primarily in the pole vault. A former Mavericks standout in that event, he has helped direct the current crew of pole vaulters to new heights.
In 2011, Jeff Rodriguez earned Second-Team All-America honors in the pole vault after placing 14th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also was the Drake Relays champion. Rodriguez continued to soar in 2012, setting school records in both the indoor (5.35m) and outdoor (5.40m) events. He also won the indoor conference championship and was a national qualifier in the outdoor season.
In addition, Hayes helped three other athletes grab all-conference honors in the pole vault. On the women's side, Sammy Nash was a Southland Conference honoree in 2011, while Julianne Burch claimed outdoor accolades in 2012. In addition, Romain Martin was an all-conference choice in the 2012 indoor season and is a three-time All-American in the decathlon.
As a collegian, Hayes won five consecutive Southland Conference championships in the pole vault. He also held the school record with a mark of 5.25 meters.
A 2010 graduate of UT Arlington, Hayes earned his degree in kinesiology.
