HOUSTON, Texas - Four individuals and the UTA men's 4x400-meter relay team earned all-Southland Conference honors as they helped the Mavericks to a third-place finish at the 2005 Southland Conference indoor Championships at the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus Feb. 19.

Kelley Jackson (Baltimore, Md.) and Adam Stafford (Merkel, Texas) captured the SLC Championship in the weight throw and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Jackson tossed the 35-pound weight a season-best 18.04 meters (59-feet, 02.25-inches to easily outdistance Joe Hastings of Texas State (16.90 meters/55-5.50) for his first conference championship. Later, Jackson earned all-SLC in the shot put with a second-place finish following a put of 16.95 meters (55-07.5).

Stafford was a model of consistency to win the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.00. He clocked times of 8.03 to win Heat 4 of the prelims, 8.00 in the semifinals and 8.00 to nip J.D. Henry of Northwestern State (8.01) for the title.

Levi Armstrong (Alvin, Texas) and Jacob Cedertun (Okso, Sweden) each earned all-SLC with top three finishes at the conference meet.

Armstrong cleared 16-02.75 for third place in the pole vault.

Cedertun added two SLC honors to his mantel with third place finishes in both the 800 meters and the mile run. He ran a season-best 1:55.17 for third in the 800 meters and a 4:15.83 for third in the mile run.

Cedertun added a third medal as the lead leg of the distance medley relay that finished third with a time of 10:22.64. The rest of the DMR includes: Jon McDowell, Davis Tagi and Daniel Noah.



As a team, UTA finished third with 79 points, just six points behind second place Texas-San Antonio's 85. Stephen F. Austin dethroned three-time defending champion Texas State with 111.5 points.
