UTA MEN FINISH THIRD, WOMEN'S SIXTH AT SLC MEET

HOUSTON - - The UT Arlington men's track and field team captured third place at the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday in Houston. UTA's women finished sixth.
UTSA scored 122 points to take the men's team title. UTA had 98.50.
The Mavericks women finished sixth overall with 50 points. Sam Houston State's women ran away with the team title with 138 points.
UTA had several Top Five finishes and one title on the second day - the 4x400-meter relay team won the SLC Championship in that event. Cordero Gray and Jarid Vaughn finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 60-meter dash, and the same duo scored for UTA with finishes of third and seventh in the 200 meters.
Takeshi Fujiwara took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.19, and Eddie Beckwith ran a 49.94 for fifth.
Ozie Hood finished second in the mile run and fourth in the 800 meters.
UTA's time of 3:18.09 in the 4x400-meter relay was a season-best as the Mavericks edged Texas State by 62 one-hundreths of a second in that event. Andrew Duncan had a jump of 48-10.25 for second in the triple jump. Jasmine Walls capped an impressive indoor season by finishing second in two events - the 60 meters with a time of 7.60 and the 200 meters with a time of 24.77.
Carranda Mose took third in the mile run. Angela Gonzalez captured third in the long jump with a leap of 18-9.75.
