NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A day after running the 10,000 meters, both Koby Styles and Jody Broccoli-Hickey scored points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as Styles earned all-conference honors and Hickey finished fifth to highlight day two for the Mavericks at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

UT Arlington sits in fifth place with 28 points, but the Mavs have their hopes high with a number of athletes who advanced to Sunday's finals.

"It was a roller coaster of a day, but at the end of the day and when the smoked cleared, we are about where we thought we would be (going into Sunday's final day)," said UT Arlington Head Track and Field Coach John Sauerhage. "We do not have as many people qualified for the finals as Texas-San Antonio on Sunday, but we have quality and I think we are going to do well."

After the Mavs failed to score points in the long jump, UT Arlington got a strong performance from Andrew Duncan III while finished third in the high jump with a personal-best tying height of 6-08.50 inches for third place and all-conference honors. Men's basketball forward Terrell Henry showed his athleticism with a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-04.75 for seventh place.

Styles earned all-conference honors with a time of 9:14.23. Hickey finished fifth with a 9:31.13 to give the Mavs 10 points in the event.

UT Arlington will have senior sprinters Jared Connaughton and Coby Morrison in the 100 meters finals. Morrison and senior Jon McDowell are in the 400-meter hurdle finals while Connaughton will look to defend his 200 meters title Sunday afternoon after the fastest qualifying time Saturday with a 21.07. McDowell also looks to defend his 110-meter title Sunday after clocking the fastest time in the prelims with a 14.03.

UT Arlington will have three in the 800-meter finals with Idilio Campos, Ozie Hood and Zach Davis all advancing after Saturday's prelims. Hood and Campos are also in the 1,500-meter finals.

Transfer Eddie Beckwith clocked the second best 400-meter time (47.10) on Saturday to advance to the finals.

Sunday is also the finals for the triple jump, pole vault and discus. Duncan has the top mark in the conference prior to the meet and senior Shay Collett will compete in the pole vault Collett earned all-SLC honors last year with a height of 17-00.50 for third place at the outdoor meet.

The Mavericks also have the top 4x100-meter relay time in the league this spring (40.04) and the second fastest qualifying time in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:09.67 turned in at the Texas Relays on April 7.
