ARLINGTON, Tx. - The UT Arlington track and field teams begin the 2009 indoor season on Friday, Jan. 16 at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Meet at the Yeoman Field House on the campus of the University of Houston.

It will be the first of four trips to Houston for the Mavericks over the next month as they have two other meets scheduled at the University of Houston and the Southland Conference indoor championships will also take place there on Feb. 20-21.

"Our sprinters and jumpers have had a long fall and they are anxious to get back into competition," said head coach John Sauerhage. "This meet will be an opportunity to get some marks in the books and see where we stand."

On the men's side, athletes to watch include Andrew Duncan in the jumps, Jarid Vaughn and Coredero Gray in the sprints and Idillo Campos and Ozie Hood in the distance events.

"We need to take this week's meet as an opportunity to compete and build for the rest of the indoor season," said Sauerhage. "It will be a good chance to set some ground work for our team and see where we are at."

Athletes to watch on the women's team include Jasmine Walls and Antonia Hopkins in the sprints and newcomers Markeisha Dudley and Clarissa Toomer. These four will also team up for the squad's 4x4 relay.

"We have to be patient with our wome's team," said Sauerhage. "We don't want to rush them and if we can stay healthy I think we have a shot at a top 3 finish at conference."

This event will be limited to 12 teams and there will be finals and consolation finals in each event.
