FRISCO, Texas - UT Arlington senior sprinter Jared Connaughton was named the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Weekly after running the second fastest 200-meter indoor time in school history and posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the process.
Connaughton, the reigning SLC 200-meter indoor champion, clocked a time of 21.21-seconds to win the Arkansas Invitational. The time was the saecond fastest in school history, trailing only six-time all-American and Olympian Elston Cawley's 20.64 set in 1998. The time was also an NCAA Indoor Championship provisional-qualifying standard for the meet on March 8-9 on the same Randal Tyson Track Complex at the University of Arkansas.
Connaughton was named the SLC Indoor Track Male Athlete of the Week in the opening week of the 2006 season. Later that season, he was named the SLC's Indoor track Athlete of the Year and the Outstanding Track Performer.
UT Arlington will travel to Lubbock to compete in the Wes Kittley Invitational on Friday.
