Track and field heads to Oklahoma for Key League Championships Prep Meet
Jan. 20, 2012
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Fresh off a solid start to the 2012 indoor season, the UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams set their sights on the season's second week, which features a Saturday trip to the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla.
It is the first of three meets that the Mavericks will take part in at the Sooners' Mosier Indoor Facility. UTA also will compete at the Sooner Invitational (Feb. 18) and ultimately, the Southland Conference Championships meet, which is just over a month away (Feb. 24-25).
"It's always nice to get familiar with the facility that you will be competing at for conference," head track and field coach John Sauerhage said. "But the reality is that this is a great opportunity to compete well, to get in better shape and to get some more conference qualifying marks."
UT Arlington's season debut at the Texas 10-Team Invitational was a successful one, as the women's team recorded 22 qualifying marks for the SLC Championships, while the men garnered 14. Sauerhage hopes that this week will bring many more.
"This is the kind of meet that should fit very well into what we are trying to accomplish," Sauerhage said. "Obviously, we need to qualify as many athletes for conference as possible in order to give ourselves the best chance to compete for a title. We are definitely looking forward to this weekend."
Saturday's field events begin at 10 a.m., while the running events commence at 12:30 p.m. For live results, visit www.soonersports.com.
