ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA track and field leaves for Wichita State Friday and will compete in a dual meet over the weekend.

Last weekend, the first round of the Sooner Open was cancelled and the athletes did not have a chance to compete against other schools.

They don't believe that is a problem though. After practicing all week, even with the strange weather that seems to find its way into the Metroplex, both squads are ready to go.

All-Americans Cordero Gray and Jasmine Walls will not be with the team as they will be competing in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York. Some of the nation's best runners will be competing there.

Look for junior Juan Lewis to try and improve his first place time in the 400m at the Texas Tech Invitational and senior Ozie Hood to beat his scores at the Texas A&M Invitational from earlier in the season.

For the women, freshman DeAndrea Smith and junior Perri Ford are expected to carry the load. Smith has already qualified for the Southland conference meet in two different events and Ford looks to qualify this weekend.
