Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington senior Jasmine Walls have been named the Southland Conference indoor track and field athlete of the year, the league office announced Wednesday.

Walls defended her titles in the women's 60 meters and 200 meters. In the 60, she crossed the finish line just three one-hundredths faster than Northwestern State senior Anna Forest and just a tenth of a second faster than Nicholls sophomore Samantha Calhoun.

Walls was clocked at 7.56, which was just faster than her winning time of 7.62 last season. In the 200, her time of 24.61 was also just three one-hundredths faster than the runner up, senior teammate Antonia Hopkins (24.64). She was also tied for women's high point scorer of the meet.

Men's high point scorer was awarded to UT Arlington senior Adolphus Jones. Jones won the heptathlon to become the first indoor multi-event champion for the Mavericks. Jones won the high jump and 1,000-meter run and finished third in the long jump and shot put. He scored 5,475 points to finish ahead of Southeastern senior Cory Roberts (5,226) and Sam Houston State junior Matthew Johnson (5,146). Jones' was just eight points off the meet record.

The women's freshman of the year is Shannon Reynolds from UT Arlington who placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 and in the 200-meter dash at 25.16.

The annual Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Awards are voted on by the league's men's and women's head coaches and are based on the performances of the student-athletes' indoor track and field season.
