AUSTIN, Texas - UT Arlington junior Romain Martin scored 7,977 points to finish second in the decathlon and highlight UTA's Thursday at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. It was Martin's second straight runner-up finish at the prestigious event.
Martin's point total was a personal-best and broke his school-record mark. He finished just 90 points behind Texas' Isaac Murphy.
In Thursday's events, Martin placed third in the pole vault (5.00 meters) and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.51 seconds). He also tossed the discus 37.77 meters, threw the javelin 61.37 meters and registered a time of 4:39.90 in the 1500.
Teammate James Turner moved up into 11th in the decathlon after a strong final day. He finished with 6,886 points, just shy of his all-time personal best.
The women's 4x800 relay team of Courtney Mose, Ashly Wright, Elin Andersson and Linsdey Putman also had a fine showing, placing fourth with a time of 8:49.15. That clocking was the second-fastest time in school history.
In the men's 4x800, the team of Philip Critelli, Anthony Rene, Jacob Critelli and Anthony Hilliman placed 15th in 7:43.72. Hilliman also competed individually, posting a time of 4:12.99 in the 800 meters.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jonathan Todd logged a time of 54.57, while on the women's side, Brookeana Witt's clocking was 1:05.31.
