Austin, Texas -

Three UTA track athletes competed in the first day of the Texas Relays and all three finished in the top three of their events with two of them setting personal bests.

Adolphus Jones got the action started off for UTA in the men's decathlon preliminary where he is currently in third place after five events. He placed first the high jump fared well in the 100 meters, 400 meters, long jump and shot put, the other four events he competed in on day one.

"I am really pleased with Adolphus' performance today," UTA Head Coach John Sauerhage said. "I'm hoping he can finish with 7,000 points in the decathlon." Jones will finish up the decathlon on Thursday with the 110 Meter Hurdles, 1500 Meters, discus, javelin and pole vault.

On the women's side, Caroline Erlingson and Amanda McMahon were impressive in the 1500 Meters. Both Mavs had personal bests on the day with Erlingson finishing first in 4:36.87 and McMahon finishing second in 4:36.93.

"They both had a great day today and obviously posting their personal bests improved both of their stock in the Southland Conference standings," Sauerhage said. The Texas Relays will continue through Saturday. Live stats of the events are available at http://www.texassports.com/livestats/m-track/relays/index.htm.
