MAVERICK TEAMS ADVANCE TO FINALS

4X100 AND 4X400 RELAY TEAMS WILL RACE SATURDAY AT THE TEXAS RELAYS

AUSTIN - - UT Arlington's 4x100-relay team and 4x400-meter relay advanced to the finals of the Texas Relays with performances on Friday.

The 4x100 team of Cordero Gray, Byron Majors, Jarid Vaughan and Eddie Beckwith ran a 40.74 on Friday morning, good enough for 8th place and a trip to the finals. That relay squad ran a reginal-qualifying time of 40.66 last week at the Bobby Lane Invitational.

UTA's 4x400 relay team of Takeshi Fujiwara, Gray, Dwight Robinson and Eddie Beckwith finished fifth with a time of 3:12.42. Prairie View A&M won the event with a 3:12.19. The finals of both events are scheduled for Saturday.

Freshman sprinter Gray also ran a 10.57 in the 100 meters, narrowly missing the finals.

Quinchun Carey finished seventh in the University B Division Long Jump with a leap of 23 feet, 63/4 inches.
