April 15, 2009
Arlington, Texas - Junior sprinters Jasmine Walls and Jarid Vaughan will lead the Mavs tracks team to Fort Worth this weekend to take part in the TCU Invitational. This is the Mavs second trip to TCU for a track meet this year. UTA kicked off the 2009 outdoor season at the Horned Frog Invitational in March.
The action kicks off Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the men's and women's discus competition. On Saturday, women's javelin and pole vault begins the field portion of the meet at 10:30 a.m.
The track events start at noon Saturday with the men's and women's 400 meter relays.
The men's 1600 meter relay, the final event of the day, is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m.
Lady Maverick Jasmine Walls will try to top an impressive showing last week in Oklahoma where the junior qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet and won the 100 meters with a speedy time of 11.59. Walls has now qualified for regionals in 100 meters as well as the 200 meters. The Pearland, Texas native also received Co-SLC Athlete of the Week honors for her stand out performance in the John Jacobs Invitational.
On the men's side, junior Jarid Vaughan is coming off of his own kind of heroics winning the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.47 in last weekend's meet. Vaughan now owns the fastest time in the 200 meters in the country. The Canadian born athlete has qualified for the regional meet in the 100 and 200 meters. More than 20 other Maverick athletes posted season best times in individual events last weekend and will be looking to improve those times this weekend.
Live stats of the meet will be available at gofrogs.cstv.com.
