WICHITA, Kan. - The UT Arlington men's and women's track teams each placed third at the Track-It Buster Invitational hosted by Wichita State this weekend. It was the final tune-up for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, which will be held May 11-13 in San Marcos, Texas.
The men secured three individual victories, while the women picked up one on Saturday.
Leading the way was Quentin Butler, who placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 10.43. It was his best time of the season by .15 and the second best recorded by a UTA sprinter this season.
In addition, Lionel Mungwari won the triple jump with a mark of 15.05 meters. It was the top mark of the year for the Mavericks. Isiah Clements was the other event winner on the men's side, as he claimed the high jump with a mark of 2.09 meters.
The Mavericks swept the 100-meter titles when Shannon Reynolds won the women's event in 11.74. It was just off her previous best time this season (11.67).
The women also produced two runner-up finishers. Eld-hah Kaswatuka was the second finisher in the triple jump with a mark of 12.17 meters, while Lindsey Putman was second in the 800 meters (2:12.85) just ahead of teammate Ashly Wright, who was fourth in 2:14.09.
UTA also had a pair of top-5 finishers in two other events. In the discus, Samantha Little (3rd, 43.82m) and Whitley Ellison (4th, 43.35m) were among the leaders, while in the long jump, Morgan Domingue (3rd, 5.54m) and Reynolds (5th, 5.47m) secured top-5s.
The men's silver medalists included Romain Martin in the pole vault (4.96m), Anthony Rene in the 800m (1:52.76) and Butler in the long jump (7.20m). Rene and Butler both had their best marks of the year in their respective events.
Rounding out the Kemarki Absalom was third in the long jump with a leap of 7.03 meters.
