ARLINGTON, Texas - - Wayland Baptist took first place in two events Friday in the opening day of the UTA Open at Maverick Stadium. Athletes competed in the men's and women's hammer throw and men's and women's 5000-meter run to get the event started.
UT Arlngton didn't have any athletes competing on Friday, but several Mavericks will be on hand for Saturday's full slate of events beginning at 9 a.m. North Texas, TCU and Baylor will be part of the 16-team field.
The UTA Open is UTA's last chance to gear up for the Southland Conference Track and Field Championships scheduled May 9-11 in Huntsville.
