T&F: Track teams wrap up SLC competition

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams finished their final Southland Conference Championships Sunday as the women took fifth place with 81.5 points, while the men snagged sixth (75 points).
Leading the way for the women's sprinters was Shannon Reynolds. She was the runner up in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 23.70 and took third in the 100 meters (11.73).
UTA had multiple point scorers in both sprints as Breonna Baldwin placed seventh in the 200m (25.36), while Kailey Bostic placed eighth in the 100m (12.00). Baldwin added a strong third-place showing in the 400 meters with a time of 54.47.
As usual, the Mavericks were also impressive in the mid-distances. The team went 2-3 in the 800 meters courtesy of Ashly Wright (2:08.42) and Lindsey Putman (2:08.66). Wright's time was nearly six seconds faster than her previous best this spring.
Putman tacked on a third-place showing in the 1500 meters with a mark of 4:32.32, while Hannah Nilsson also scored in the event (4:39.96).
Maria Sandstrom continued her strong distance running, as she was the silver medalist in the 5000 meters (17:25.79).
The women's 4x100 relay team of LaDoreal Thompson, Reynolds, Bostic and Baldwin placed second with a time of 45.21.
The women also scored in the field events on Sunday. Samantha Little placed third in the discus (44.52m), Sammy Nash landed fifth in the pole vault (3.70m) and Eld-hah Kaswatuka finished sixth in the triple jump (12.11m).
On the men's side, freshman Quentin Butler placed third in the 200 meters with a clocking of 21.09 and grabbed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.71.
Emil Blomberg landed seventh in the 1500 meters (3:54.12), which was the same placement as Romain Martin in the 110-meter hurdles (14.77) and Jonathan Todd in the 400-meter hurdles (53.58). Isiah Clements was eighth in the 200m (21.55).
