Fujiwara named Academic All-American

Arlington, Texas - Former UT Arlington track standout Takeshi Fujiwara has been named a 2009 Academic All-American by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
Fujiwara was a mainstay in the sprints for the Mavericks during the 2009 season and was member of the team's sprint relay teams as well. Most recently, he represented his native El Salvador at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia.
During this past season he qualified for NCAA Regionals in the 400 meters and was a member of the regional qualifying 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. His best performance in the 400m came at the Southland Conference Championships where he ran a 46.71 and finished fifth in the prelims.
He finished his collegiate academic career with a 3.30 GPA in business administration.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
