UT ARLINGTON CROSS COUNTRY TEAM OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY

DENTON - - Four UT Arlington men's cross country runners finished in the Top 10, leading the Mavericks to victory against North Texas, TCU and Northwood University on Saturday morning at the 31st Annual North Texas Invitational. UTA had 35 points, ahead of Northwood's 47.
UT Arlington's women captured second place, finishing just behind TCU.
Idilio Campos led the Mavericks men with a time of 21 minutes, 7.95 seconds on the 4-mile Eagle Point Cross Country Course. Fellow Maverick Ozie Hood was third with a time of 21:23.13. Heinz Schwarzkopg and Ivan Pinal were sixth and 10th, respectively.
On the women's side, UT Arlington showed an improvement in depth from a year ago with five athletes finishing in the Top 13. Caroline Erlingson led the way with a second-place finish in the overall standings, clocking a time of 11 minutes, 49.04 seconds over the 2-mile course. Jennifer Carey turned in a time of 12:11.55, which was good enough for ninth place. Amanda McMahon was 10th with a time of 12:13.75.
UT Arlington returns to action on Sept. 22 at the Rice Cross Country Invitational in Houston.
