MAVERICK MEN FIFTH, WOMEN EIGHTH IN COLLEGE STATION

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - - UT Arlington senior distance runner Idilio Campos finished fifth overall in a strong field and led the Mavericks men to a fifth-place team finish at the Texas A&M Invitational Cross Country meet Friday night in College Station, Texas. UT Arlington's women captured eighth out of 12 teams.
The Mavericks were competing in the meet hosted by Texas A&M because the upcoming races at Rice University were canceled due to Hurricane Ike.
In the men's division, Texas A&M won the team title with 21 points, led by individual champion Shadrock Songok. UTA had 149 points, ahead of seven universities that included Baylor, Sam Houston and Texas State. Campos finished the 8K course in 24 minutes, 42.011 seconds. Heinz Schwarzkopk was 27th, followed by Zach Zura (35th), Ozie Hood (37th) and Taylor Gill (45th).
In the women's division, Baylor captured the team championship with 32 points. UT Arlington had 220 and finished ahead of Tarleton State, Northwood, St. Edwards and Sam Houston State. Christina Mose led the Mavericks women with a 40th-place finish overall, running the 5K course in 19 minutes, 04.188 seconds. Caroline Erlingson was 42nd, followed by Amanda McMahon (43rd), Jennifer Carey (47th) and Perri Ford (48th).
The Mavericks men and women are back in action Sept. 26 at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash.
