ARLINGTON - - UT Arlington senior runner Idilio Campos has been honored by the Southland Conference with this week's pick as SLC Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Campos, a three-year letterman from Mission, Texas, finished third overall at Saturday's North Texas Invitational. Campos covered the 4-mile Eagle Point Cross Country Course in 21 minutes, 7.95 seconds. His performance helped lead the Mavericks to a team victory in the meet that also included TCU, Northwood and North Texas.
Campos is UT Arlington's top returning cross country runner after helping the Mavericks to an 11th-place finish at regionals last season.
UT Arlington runner Caroline Erlingson earned Honorable Mention in voting for SLC Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Erlingson finished second overall and helped UT Arlington's women to a second-place finish in the North Texas Invitational.
UT Arlington's cross country teams return to the course Sept. 22 at the Rice Invitational.
