Men take second while women finish fourth

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's cross country team opened the season Saturday morning with a second place finish, while the women's team took fourth at the UT Arlington Season Opener held at Vandergriff Park.

Sophomore David Rayo led the Men's team with a fifth place finish, the highest of his career. He completed the four mile run in 21:03.

True freshman Robert Gribble ran a 21:33 to take 15th place, while Aaron Purser turned in a time of 21:45 for a 19th place.

Holton Hemby finished in 20th place with a time of 21:48, and Kevin Vasquez took 23rd with a time of 21:55.

The men's team finished with 49 total points, while Baylor took first place (19), TCU took third (52) and Northwood took fourth place (98).

Sophomore Emily Koenig, the returning Southland Conference individual champion, led the women's team with a fourth place finish. She recorded an 11:14 in the two-mile run.

Maria Sandstroem ran unattached and took 12th place with a time of 11:26, while Marissa Paz turned in a time of 12:14 to finish in 20th place.

Lindsey Putman ran a 12:20 to take 22nd place, while Elin Andersson finished 28th with a time of 12:30.

The women's team finished with 76 total points behind SMU (38), TCU (43), and Baylor (52). Northwood finished in 5th place (138).
