Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women cross country teams will tie up their laces Saturday morning for the 2010 NCAA South Central Regional in Waco, Texas.

The team of Emily Koenig, Amanda McMahon and Jennifer Carey will represent the women while Cody Widener, Eric Montou, and Heinz Schwarzkopf will represent the men's squad.

Koenig is coming off a Southland Conference Championship and became the first athlete in SLC women's cross country history to win Freshman of the Year and Athlete of the Year honors in the same season.

"Emily without question is one of the most talented distant runners that we've ever had," head coach John Sauerhage said. "The accolades that she has already won are due to the fact of how much work she puts in and how well she is running. Without a question she is one of the premiere runners in our league right now."

Not only is Koenig coming off a SLC championship but she has won three-first place titles in her last four meets.

"Whatever happens this weekend the precedence has been set for Emily that she is going to have an outstanding career here at UT Arlington. If she makes it to the NCAA's that great, if she doesn't she has three more chances," added Sauerhage.

The NCAA South Central Regional meet opens at 10 a.m. for the women and 11 a.m. for the men at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.
