Hall of Honor Induction
ARLINGTON, Texas -- As part of a fun-filled Hall of Honor weekend on UTA's campus, around 35 former Mavericks football standouts returned for an alumni reunion in Arlington.
On Friday, UTA's 2018 Hall of Honor class was inducted in a ceremony at the UTA University Center. It featured former football greats Fred Gough and Don Morrison.
The reunion was held on Saturday at Legal Draft Beer Co. with over 35 former alumni in attendance, ranging from 1960-1985. Food was graciously catered and donated by Spring Creek BBQ. The reunion continued during the basketball doubleheader at College Park Center, with alumni occupying the hospitality suite while reconnecting and reminiscing with former teammates. The alumni were recognized on the court during the men's win over ULM.
"Thank you (UTA President) Dr. Karbhari, Derrick (Grubbs), Kris (Wood), Jim (Baker) and everyone that helped put this thing together and everyone that has made this happen," Gough said during his induction speech on Friday night. "It is a pretty neat deal and thank you all for being here. This is a special night for us, our son flew in from Omaha, Nebraska. God has really blessed me by giving me to this University. And 53 years later, it seems like a dream. I am truly honored tonight."
"At the risk of sounding cheesy and cliché – you can see all the accolades that my dad has accomplished and my sister and I came along after his glory days – but I want to say as a father, and an example of a man he has been for us, it all far outweighs the accomplishments he could have ever achieved on the field," Morrison's son, Chris, who was joined by Don's cousin, Mike, said on Friday during an acceptance speech. "I love you dad. Thank you UTA for an awesome night. This couldn't have been more memorable."
