ARLINGTON, Texas – Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson was the featured speaker at the first Maverick Club luncheon of 2013-14. Benson took the gathering at College Park Center through UT Arlington's journey from the Southland Conference to the WAC to the Sun Belt.
Benson had an integral role in UT Arlington's move from the Southland to the WAC as the WAC's former commissioner. As signs started pointing to change in the WAC's membership, Benson once again had a hand in UT Arlington's fate as the new commissioner of the Sun Belt.
"I'm so happy that it worked out," Benson said.
Volleyball coach Diane Seymour and cross country coach John Sauerhage also took part in the luncheon. The volleyball team returns to the court Friday at 7 p.m. against UTSA at College Park Center in the Hilton Maverick Classic. Men's and women's cross country host the UTA Season Opener/Gerald Richey Invitational at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
Maverick Club luncheons are once a month during the academic year. To join the Maverick Club, please contact Leigh Coggiola at (817) 272-0694 or Coggiola@uta.edu.
