Renda Churman begins her second season as an assistant coach on Donna Capps' staff at UTA. She is responsible for recruiting and academics, along with her on-court duties of working with the team's post players. Churman comes to UTA after serving one season as an assistant coach at Houston Baptist. The 2004-05 Husky women compiled an overall record of 36-3 and a perfect 22-0 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Huskies were ranked No. 1 in the final NAIA Top 25 poll and advanced all the way to the NAIA Final Four. While at HBU, Churman was responsible for working with the team's post players, as well as recruiting and film exchange. She helped coach three players to All-America honors and one player was named to the Daktronics-NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-America Scholar-Athlete team. A native of Godley, Texas, Churman played her prep basketball for coach Terry Eccles at Godley High School. She was named District 13-2A "Most Valuable Player" in each of her final three seasons. She garnered second team all-region honors as a sophomore and junior and third team all-state accolades as a sophomore. As a senior, Churman averaged 20 points and seven rebounds a game in earning first team all-region and all-state honors and was a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-Star. Her teams also enjoyed success as the they captured three straight district and bi-district championships and two straight area titles. Churman returns to the Southland Conference where she was a second team all-SLC performer in 2001 as a senior at Texas-San Antonio. She led the Roadrunners in scoring at 11.4 points a contest and helped lead the team to its third post-season berth since joining the SLC. Churman scored a career-best 23 points in game against Sam Houston State as a senior. Churman played in 107 games for the Roadrunners, making 58 starts, including all 29 games during her senior season. She finished her career with 732 points and 364 rebounds. While at UTSA, Churman was on the Dean's list for two year's and was a two-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). While at UTSA, she spent two years as the head coach of the Boerne Stars AAU team. After graduation, Churman spent one season as an assistant coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla. Churman then went on to spend one season as an assistant coach at Garden City (Kan.) Community College. Churman, a member of the TABC, graduated from UTSA in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
