Kris Wood begins his first season as an assistant coach for the UT Arlington women's basketball program. Wood comes to UTA after spending two seasons at Blinn College as an assistant coach. While at Blinn, the Lady Buccaneers compiled an overall record of 35-27 and achieved a berth to the Region XIV tournament in back-to-back seasons. The newly added assistant also coached current Maverick Jasmine Smith while she was completing her sophomore season at Blinn College. In addition to assisting the basketball program, Wood was a full-time faculty member for the Department of Mathematics and Department of Kinesiology. Previous to his tenure at Blinn, Wood spent two years as the head coach for Paris Junior College in Paris, TX. The Lady Dragons earned a Region XIV tournament berth during the 2008-2009 season. Before arriving at Paris, Wood spent four years at Hill College in Hillsboro, TX. He served as the head women's basketball coach for three years during the 2004-2007 seasons. In his final season with the Lady Rebels, he led the team to a playoff berth. At Hill, Wood also helped develop and start the men's golf program, serving as the head golf coach from 2005-2007. Wood began his coaching career at Hill College as an assistant coach for the men's and women's basketball teams during the 2003-2004 academic year. Wood graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2002 with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics. He earned his Master of Science in Sport Management from Baylor University in 2005. Most recently, the newly named assistant coach has taken classes in pursuit of his Ph. D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. |
