ARLINGTON, Texas - Senior Terra Wallace hit a lay-up at the buzzer to give UTA the 57-56 win over Stephen F. Austin in Southland Conference action Saturday. Senior Ashley Bobb, junior Maryann Abanobi and freshman Meghan Nelson all scored 14 points in the win.

The Ladyjack (13-7, 5-2) had four players score in double digits, led by senior Charity Egenti with 17 points. Junior Nikki Carr came off the bench to contribute 16 points to the Ladyjacks.

The Mavericks solidified their lead in the Southland Conference and tied their best ever start in conference play with eight straight wins. UTA improved its overall record to 13-8 with the win.

Stephen F. Austin jumped out to the 5-2 lead four minutes into the first half before UTA scored seven unanswered points to regain the lead 9-5 with 14:46 left in the half. With back-to-back jumpers the Ladyjacks Whitney Cormier knotted the score 9-9 with 13:18 on the clock. Bobb hit a tre to put the Mavs ahead by nine (18-9) with ten minutes left in the first half.

After junior Tiffeny Riles extended UTA's lead 20-11, SFA went on an 8-0 run to get within one (20-19) with 3:51 left in the half. UTA closed out the half with 9-6 run for the four-point, 29-25, advantage heading into the locker room.

Five minutes into the second half Abanobi hit a bucket from beyond the arch to give UTA the 38-32 advantage. Over the next four minutes SFA went on 11-7 run to draw within two (45-43). Carr hit a three with 6:59 to give SFA its first lead of the half 48-47.

Over the next four minutes UTA went on an 8-5 run to regain the lead 55-53. With 57 seconds on the clock Carr hit 1-2 from the charity stripe to bring the Ladyjacks within one (55-54) then Egenti hit a lay-up with five seconds left in the game to put SFA up 56-55. Wallace answered by hitting the buzzer beater to give UTA the win.

 

 

UTA will return to action when it plays host to Texas State on Friday (2/2) at 7 p.m. Friday's game will be broadcast on Fox Sport Network (Southwest).
