ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball won, 64-45, over McNeese State in Southland Conference action Saturday to extend its winning streak to 11. Three Mavericks scored in double digits with junior Maryann Abanobi recording her first career double double.

Senior Terra Wallace led all scorers with 16 points followed by Abanobi with 11 points and ten boards. Junior Tiffeny Riles rounded out the trio with ten for the Mavs (16-8, 11-0). McNeese (2-21, 0-10) was led by Reeshimah Davis with 14 points.

McNeese got on the board first for a 5-0 lead two minutes into the game. Wallace hit a basket from long range to cut the Cowgirls lead to two (5-3). Wallace followed with back-to-back baskets to put UTA ahead 12-7 at the 15:40 mark. Over the next two minutes the Mavs went on a 7-2 run to lead by ten (19-9).

McNeese put together a 6-3 run to cut the Mavs lead to seven (22-15) with 12:08 left in the half. Over the next three minutes UTA went to the line four times hitting 7-8, to lead 29-18. Down the stretch the Cowgirls outscored the Mavs 12-11 to cut UTA's lead to ten (40-30) heading into the locker room.

Abanobi opened up the second half with a steal and quick lay-up for the 42-30 advantage. McNeese went on an 11-2 run to get within three (44-41) with 14:48 left in the game. Both teams hit a shooting drought until Wallace hit a fade away jumper at the 9:06 mark to put UTA up 48-41.

UTA sank three unanswered baskets to gain a 13-point advantage (54-41) with 5:46 left on the clock. A lay-up from senior Tojjinay Thompson followed by a jumper from Wallace put the Mavs up 58-42 with 4:07 left to play. Freshman LaTosha Duffey hit a jumper with 57 seconds left to extend UTA's lead to 20 (62-42). The Mavs held the Cowgirls to only six baskets in the second half to secure their 11th straight win.

 

 

The Mavs will continue Southland Conference action as they travel to San Antonio for their second meeting of the season with UT San Antonio on Thursday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
