SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball won its 16th straight SLC game of the season 81-60 at Texas State on Friday. The Mavs finish the regular season with a 21-8 record overall and 16-0 in conference action.

Senior Terra Wallace led all players with 20 points dishing out six assists and swiping six steals. Senior Ashley Bobb missed the double double by one with 15 points and nine boards. Junior Tiffeny Riles added 13 points in the win.

The Bobcats (18-11, 11-5) were led by junior Joyce Ekworomadu with 12 points while senior Erica Putnam recorded the double double with 11 points and 11 boards.

UTA went on a 8-5 run to open the first half and then went up 10-7 on a jumper from Bobb at the 15:13 mark. A three from senior Tojjinay Thompson followed by a steal and fast break lay-up from Wallace capped with a three from Bobb gave the Mavs a 18-9 lead with 12:56 left in the first half.

Junior Maryann Abanobi hit a lay-up at the 9:10 mark to give UTA the 15-point advantage (30-15). Over the next five minutes the Mavs went on a 10-2 run to lead by 23 (40-17) with four minutes left in the half. The Mavs closed out the first half with a 10-6 run to lead by 27 (50-23) heading into the locker room.

Texas State opened the second half with a 10-3 run to get within 20 (53-33) of UTA with 17:05 on the clock, but the Mavs answered back with back-to-back jumpers from Thompson and freshman Meghan Nelson to regain a 24-point advantage.

Nelson hit a lay-up to put the Mavs ahead 62-41 with 10:48 left on the clock. Over the next two and a half minutes UTA went on a 4-2 run capped with a put back from sophomore Candice Champion for the 23-point advantage (66-43).

 

 

Junior Tiffeny Riles hit two from the line to maintain the 23-point lead (76-53) with 2:52 left in the game. Brooke DeGrate hit a three with 1:33 left on the clock to bring the Bobcats to within 18 (78-60). With one second left in the game freshman Kiarra Shofner made a free throw to give UTA its 16th straight SLC victory of the season.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Wed., March 7 in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament in Houston. As the No. 1 seed UTA will take on the No. 8 seed at 6 p.m. in the Campbell Center. SLC tournament action will continue with the semifinal game on Friday at noon and 2 p.m.
