WBB: Mavs fall 81-57 to Utah State
March 2, 2013 LOGAN, Utah – The UT Arlington Mavericks fell 81-57 to the Utah State Aggies Saturday, March 2 in Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Mavericks fall to 6-21 overall and 3-13 in conference play, while Utah State picks up its 13th win of the season. Desherra Nwanguma led the Mavericks with 12 points and six rebounds. Laila Suleiman had 11 points for UT Arlington. It was Senior Day in Logan and the Aggie Seniors made sure they left an impression on their home crowd. Four of the five seniors saw action and combined for 50 points against the Mavericks. The Aggies started the game strong, while UT Arlington struggled from the floor. Utah State scored the first six points and continued their success with a 22-2 run to begin the first half. Malaika Green knocked down a 3-pointer, but it wasn’t enough compared to the Aggies' four 3-pointers in the first nine minutes of play. The Aggies continued to knock down shots making 7-of-19 3-point shots, while the Maverick struggled from the floor shooting just 25 percent. UT Arlington headed to the locker room down 45-22 it the Aggies. The Mavericks started the second half shooting 57.1 percent compared to the Aggies' 35.3 percent, but the Aggies continued to hit shots. The Aggies' Devyn Christensen led both teams with 24 points, while Jenna Johnson combined for a double-double with 17 point and 14 rebounds
The Mavericks are back on the court Thursday, March 7 and Saturday, March 9 for their final home games of the 2012-13 season. |
