Saturday, March 4, 2017 • Cajundome • Lafayette, La.
UTA coach Krista Gerlich
On Richards hitting the game-winning shot
"It was great for Shelby. There were so many things going on in that game. I've never seen them take free throws off the board and for her to come back down and knock down that shot, I am really proud of the resilience that we showed. Our kids fought until the end."
On being able to go into the postseason on a high note
"It is exactly what we need. We need that energy and that confidence and momentum. Second place in the Sun Belt after four years, we are so proud of this gorup of kids and the group and the group that came before them for the standard they want to continue to set. I am just so proud of them."
Junior guard Shelby Richards
On hitting the game winner
"Anytime that you hit a big shot, it feels great. The energy going through your body feels great. I am so happy the team trusted me with that shot."
On what it was like receiving the ball with just seconds left
It was pretty cool because the girl closed out on Christina and we just made eye contact, and she was like, just shoot it. And it went in I was just like 'Oh my gosh."
What the team can take from tonight's win
"That you can't underestimate. That is what coach Gerlich talks to us about is giving everything you got in the next game and if we just keep doing that we can keep advancing."
