SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - After a thriller in Game 1 vs. Ottawa on Tuesday, the finale of the two-game series was just as exciting, this time with UTA coming out on top 63-59 at BN Arena on Wednesday.
UTA's second of four matchups in Costa Rica was on edge with less than six minutes to play as the teams were deadlocked at 53 apiece after exchanging runs. It was the Lady Mavericks who clamped down on the defensive end, forcing four turnovers to spark an 8-2 run on the way to a four-point win.
Ottawa battled through an impressive first half, shooting 51.9 percent from the field and led by six at the break. UTA came out firing and outscored the GeeGee's 18-8 in the third, helped along by back-to-back 3-pointers from Brooke Alexander and a jumper at the buzzer by Laurynn McGowen.
UTA continues the four games in four days stretch when it begins a two-game stretch against the Costa Rican National Team on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT.
The Lady Mavs enjoyed an easier day on Wednesday around Costa Rica after a busy first full day in San Jose. UTA was able to visit a local wood carving factory as well as shops around the area before taking in local cuisine.
