ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington won its first exhibition game in College Park Center 65-53 against the Flying Queens of Wayland Baptist.
The Maverick's showed off their new adidas uniforms as well as their new lineup consisting of newcomer Laila Suleiman and returners Chauntandra Williams, Malaika Green, Briana Walker and Desherra Nwanguma.
Sophomore Chauntandra Williams stepped up for the Mavericks early scoring 10 points in the first half. Williams also grabbed two steals and three rebounds for the Mavs. Newcomer Aron Garcia picked up her first two points in a Mavs uniform before leaving the game with an injury.
Desherra Nwanguma showed coach Morrow she is here to compete this season after picking up a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds against the Flying Queens.
"(Desherra) is way too unselfish," head coach Samantha Morrow said about her returner. "We have to tell her to shoot the ball sometimes.
"Desherra worked extremely hard in the off season and we want her to continue to work like that so she can average those numbers this season."
The Mavericks being their 2012-13 season Nov. 9 in Washington, D.C. as they take on George Washington at 7 p.m.
