San Francisco at UTA
Thursday, Dec. 21 – College Park Center - Arlington, Texas
UTA Head Coach Krista Gerlich
Opening statement ...
"We are so glad to be back in the win column. There is no doubt about that. I am really proud of our kids and how hard they fought. We definitely went through the cycle of ups and downs but we saw some growth on the court and in the game. San Francisco is very well coached – I've known Molly (Goodenbour) for a long time – and she does a really good job. Those kids play really confident. They have a lot of weapons and I thought they came out in the second half and settle down a little bit. Our defense pressure lightened up a little bit in the second half, especially coming right out of halftime, which we have to fix. We did turn it back on at times. LoLo (Laurynn McGowen) was huge all night long. She really started buying into what we think she's capable of doing and she controlled them in the first half. What can you say about Shelby (Richards)? We're going to have to start calling her big-shot Shelby. That was huge for her to knock that down. It was a great overall team effort and I'm really proud the girls persevered and got that W."
On the fourth quarter ...
"They went to a zone in the second half and we executed pretty well. They let us shoot the three some and we just didn't knock them down. We had a bunch of kids get some good looks, I just didn't think we were very confident. We defeintely started playing not to loose instead of hammering them. We didn’t play very confident right there and I think part of that is having lost five games in a row. We haven't been in a situation where we had to keep the lead and our kids kind of shot it that way."

On the win ...
"It was a really big win for us because we've lost a few lately. It was good to go into the break, a win always make the Christmas break a lot better. It was good to see that we can go over the peaks and valleys and overcome. We kept battling, had constant effort and that's good for the team in general."
On her game-winning shot ...
"I'm really happy it went in. I know that getting in the gym is paying off. Having my team believe in me, it makes this a really big game for me."
