Postgame Notes

  • UTA defeated San Francisco 56-54 on Thursday in the team's final tuneup before league play.
  • Shelby Richards knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer with six seconds left.
  • Richards finished with a career-high 16 points.
  • UTA hit just one field goal in the fourth quarter, the game winner.
  • UTA led for 35:42, while USF led for just four minutes in the fourth quarter, overturning what was a 19-point UTA lead.
  • UTA closed out nonconference play with a 6-5 record, while San Francisco went to 5-6.
  • Laurynn McGowen was the first into double figures for the Lady Mavs, scoring 11 points and dishing five assists in the half. McGowen finished with 14 points and 5 assists.
  • Rebekah VanDijk finished with six points and five rebounds. VanDijk needs just one point to tie for sixth in UTA history. VanDijk's boards moved her up to 13th in Sun Belt career history with 940.
  • The Lady Mavs used the starting line up of McGowen, Allen, Richards, Parker and VanDijk for the second time this season.
  • UTA allowed just four points in the second quarter as USF went more than seven minutes without a point. UTA led 39-22 at halftime.
  • UTA begins Sun Belt play on Dec. 29 when it takes a two-game trip to the Carolinas. The trek begins against Coastal Carolina at 2:30 p.m. CST. The Lady Mavs then face Appalachian State on Dec. 31 at 12 p.m. CST.
  • UTA was picked as the preseason Sun Belt favorite, while Rebekah VanDijk was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year.
