ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's basketball team will host UTSA on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in a SLC Western Division showdown at Texas Hall. This will be the second meeting this season between the Mavericks and Roadrunners.
Senior Maryann Abanobi leads the Mavericks in scoring averaging 12.9 points a game, while junior Candice Champion ranks second on the squad with 10.8 points a game. Senior Tiffeny Riles, who hauled in career-high 21 rebounds at McNeese, is averaging a team-best 7.6 rebounds a game.
Scouting UTSA...
UTSA sits in second place in the SLC West standings with a 9-1 conference record. The Roadrunners lone loss came at the hands of the East Division leading Lamar Cardinal's back in their first conference game of the season. Since, UTSA has won nine straight league games.
Four 'Runners are averaging double digits on the season, led by Onika Anderson with 13.3 points and 9.5 rebounds a game.
Series History with the Roadrunners...
This will be the 43rd meeting between the Roadrunners and Mavericks. UTA has a 23-19 lead in the all-time series between these two teams, and holds a 14-5 edge in games played at Texas Hall. UTSA did win 76-53 when these two teams met early this year (Jan. 24) in San Antonio.
The Coaches...
Samantha Morrow became the eighth head coach in UT Arlington women's basketball history in May. She has posted a 14-8 record in her first season coaching at the collegiate level after amassing a 413-77 (.843) record at the high school level. Rae Rippetoe-Blair in her 8th season as the Roadrunners head coach owns a 130-96 record at UTSA.
Looking Ahead...
The Mavs will continue SLC Western Division action as they travel to Corpus Christi for a meeting with the Islanders on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center.
