ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA coach Krista Gerlich announced the addition of Zhane Templeton to the Lady Maverick roster. Templeton joins UTA from Gonzaga and will be eligible as a junior for the 2018-19 season.
"Zhane is going to be a great addition to our team in 2018," Gerlich said. "She is a fantastic shooter with a high release and has a scorer's mentality. Zay has terrific length and athleticism to defend on the perimeter and her work ethic is exceptional. She is a tough competitor day in and day out and brings a winning mentality to our team. Learning our system with this senior class in practice will be instrumental in her impact for us after her year in residency."
Templeton was a part of a Gonzaga squad that won the West Coast Conference tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament as the No. 11 seed. Templeton is a native of Grand Prairie, Texas and attended South Grand Prairie High School.
In her sophomore season, Templeton played in 29 games and averaged 4.3 points to go with 0.9 rebounds. Templeton was big from 3-point land, knocking down 26-of-62 attempts at a 41.9 percent clip. She played in all 33 games as a freshman and averaged 15.5 minutes per game on the way to 5.5 points per game, scoring a season high of 16 on two occasions.
At South Grand Prairie, she was a TGCA First-Team Class 5A All-State selection and averaged 11.2 points per game in her 2014 season.
Templeton joins Daiane Machado and Laurynn McGowan as recent additions to the squad.
