ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA coach Krista Gerlich announced the signing of Katie Ferrell, a 6A state champion from Plano High School.
"We are beyond thrilled to add Katie Ferrell to our already exciting 2018 recruiting class," Gerlich said. "Katie is a difference maker. She is a fierce competitor, has a high IQ and is a very talented, big, point guard. Her size and length gives us so much versatility. Her transition game is one of her biggest strengths and allows her to make the people around her better. If I'm on the court with Katie, I'm running the floor in transition. Her championship mentality added with the other "champions" in this class will help us take our program to another level."
On the way to a state title, Ferrell averaged 6.0 points and 7.0 assists to go with 6.8 rebounds per game. She picked up 88 steals and 53 blocks in the regular season. In the playoffs, she upped her assists to 7.7 per game and 8.6 rebounds. Ferrell is joined by fellow Plano signee Emma Halverson on the 2018-19 UTA roster.
The Lady Mavericks were picked with the No. 1 signing class in 2018 according to ASGR - the second time since 2014 UTA has had the top class in the league.
