ARLINGTON, Texas - Each week, the UTA Athletic Department spotlights a Texas Trust Scholar-Athlete of the Week to showcase the excellence in academic achievement of its student-athletes.
This week's honoree is sophomore women's basketball player Brooke Alexander, a transfer from Liberty University that will be eligible for the upcoming season after sitting out last year. Alexander is a Communications Major and holds a 3.73 GPA.
During her freshman season at Liberty, she started in 16 of the team's 31 games, averaging 3.3 points per game and finishing third in assists with 51. Alexander attended Prestonwood Christian Academy and helped the Lady Lions reach their first-ever TAPPS 5A state final four in 2013 and first championship in 2014. She scored 13.5 points and led the team in assists, steals and 3 pointers in 2014.
The Lady Mavericks open their season on Nov. 11 vs. Incarnate Word at College Park Center. The 2:30 p.m. tipoff is a part of the University's Homecoming, with a men's game completing the festivities at 7 p.m.
