UTA women's basketball is counting down the days until tipping off the season on Nov. 11 versus Incarnate Word on UTA Homecoming Week. With just two days until the opener, meet the Lady Mav's No. 2, junior Lauren Billie.

How excited are you to finally tip off the season this Saturday?

Billie- "I am very excited, especially with this team. We have a lot of secret weapons as coach Gerlich says. It is my junior year, so I am just ready to play."

How would you say you have changed between your first two years to coming into your junior season?
Billie- "I have changed a lot. In the classroom and on the court I became more of a voice. On the court, I really wouldn't talk that much, but now they are having me run different positions to where I have to tell people what to do and where to go."

How big was the team's trip to Costa Rica to prepare for the season?
Billie- "It was really important because we have a lot of new people and we were just getting to know each other. Going zip lining and going to the beach made us a lot closer. My favorite part outside of basketball was going zip lining because I really like adventurous stuff like that. It was cool to see people face their fears and it was cool getting to go upside down."

What are you looking forward to out of the newcomers on the court?
Billie- "I am really excited to see them play. A lot of us can play different spots now. The other day in practice coach Gerlich was talking about replacing five at a time because we can make the game go faster and all play. Not many teams have such a deep bench and that is really exciting. I am excited to see Jennifer Parker play, she is really talented and I am excited to see what she can do and how she can help us. She will be really good by the time it is her senior year."

What has it been like playing with this senior class?
Billie- "They are big shoes to fill. I have been playing with Cierra and Rebekah the longest. I have learned a lot from Cierra, especially on the defensive side. Crystal is really hard to guard in practice but she makes us better. They have done a lot of good things for us. It will be exciting to see what we could do and accomplish, but we are excited to go through this season."

What are you working on to get better for your junior year?
Billie- "I want to better my shooting percentage for the 3-pointer and be more of a dictator on defense to get my steals and such and chase Cierra a little bit in her pursuit of records."

How is the team going to accomplish the goals set at the beginning of the year?
Billie- "We already got our chemistry down, we have a lot of it on and off the court but we just need to make sure we get on the same page and stay on it to meet the goal that we want to accomplish at the end of the season."

What do you like to do when you get free time outside of basketball?
Billie- "I really like to draw, but I haven't been able to as much since high school but I want to get back into it. I really like to paint, and paint animals. Outside of that I just like to rest and go back and sleep when I can."
