ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA women's basketball is counting down the days until tipping off the season on Nov. 11 versus Incarnate Word on UTA Homecoming Week. With just one day until the opener, meet the Lady Mav's No. 1, Laurynn McGowen.
What does your preparation look like leading up to a game?
McGowen- "First of all I like to rest and get well rested and just mentally prepare myself and picture everything. I picture how many assists I want to have, how many points I want to have and I picture how I want the team as a whole to play. I just prepare myself to play."
What made you choose UTA as your place to transfer to?
McGowen- "UTA is definitely a home away from home here. My teammates make me comfortable and my coaches made me comfortable and I felt like I belonged here. Seeing Daiane, who I had played with in New Mexico, allowed me to not be as nervous as I would have been if I was walking in here alone. Having someone that you know is always a good thing, especially going into a new environment with new people."
How excited are you to finally get the season started?
McGowen- "I am very excited. I feel that we can dominate our conference this year and I look forward to all of the goals that we are going to accomplish and all of the things that we are going to be able to do as a team."
What was it like going to Costa Rica to get to play basketball in the summer?
McGowen- "It was a good experience and an experience of a life time. It allowed us to come closer to bond on and off the court. My favorite part of the trip was zip lining because I am afraid of heights and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was able to get out of my comfort zone and had a lot of fun."
What is it going to take for the team to accomplish their goals this season?
McGowen- "Our preparation started in June and from here on out we just need to take things day-by-day. As long as we continue to work on and build from here we will be fine and can reach our goal."
